Trevor Holmes - Vice President of External and Strategic Affairs

Dublin City University announced the appointments of Mr Trevor Holmes to the post of Vice President for External Relations and Strategic Affairs in October 2014. He is a member of the Senior Management Team of the University and holds responsibility for External Relations, Media Relations, Marketing, Student Recruitment, Internationalisation and a number of university projects outlined in its strategic plan, "Transforming Lives and Societies". Prior to this appointment he had been the Vice President for External Relations at University College Cork with responsibility for Internationalisation , Marketing Communications, Media Relations, Alumni Relations and the University Development Office. Mr Holmes entered public service from employment within the multinational enterprise sector when he joined IDA Ireland as the Head of Corporate Communications at the start of 2008.

Dublin City University (DCU) is a young, research-led university that gained its university status in 1989. A Young University, DCU has five campuses within its Dublin location and  currently hosts 6,000 undergraduate, 600 research postgraduates, 1,800 taught postgraduate students and over 50,00 alumni, plus 1,200 online distance education students studying through DCU connected.

Originally formed on an ad-hoc basis to unify colleges, the DCU became its own independent institute with a strong and distinct identity and mission.

International Partnerships

DCU pursues an active policy of strategic engagement with targeted International Institutions (listed below). DCU also engages with BrazilIndiaChina and Japan through the International Strategic Collaboration Awards (ISCA) programmes funded by SFI which target developing long term research linkages with Institutions in these countries.

In addition the DCU India Institute takes a leading role in developing DCU relationships with India and the Transatlantic Higher Education Partnership facilitates collaborations with Arizona State University.

Notable Research Areas

Research and Innovation at DCU stems from the academic excellence of its five faculties coupled with a passion for translating knowledge into innovations for economic or societal benefit. Beyond specific disciplinary research, DCU’s activities are focused on some of society’s most pressing needs:
