Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris is the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs at Universitas Indonesia (UI).

Abdul Haris has a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UI. He continued his doctoral education at Kiel University in the field of Geophysics and has now reached the highest level in the academic field, becoming a professor.

Prof. Abd Haris said that Universitas Indonesia has an immense role as the best university in Indonesia and is playing the part of the national teacher. He made many programs to make UI a superior university and produce excellent graduates to face various problems of the nation.

Under his leadership, UI has established its Center for Independent Learning (CIL), a unit under academic and student affairs that functions to facilitate the government’s Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.

CIL plays a role in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the MBKM program at UI. With the CIL, students can implement the MBKM program without going through lengthy and troublesome bureaucratic processes to implement MBKM in an integrated, efficient, and excellent manner.

Previously, Abdul Haris served as Dean at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UI from 2014 to 2019. He brought many changes marked by the addition of welfare facilities. Two Pertamina-FMIPA UI Multidisciplinary Research laboratory buildings were also successfully established. A grant of 7 billion IDR from the Sinar Mas Group was also obtained to utilize the new buildings.

In addition, cooperation between several companies such as Schlumberger has also been obtained. In the field of research, Prof. Abd Haris also succeeded in making FMIPA the second-largest publication producer at UI with the positive impact of increasing the number of professors by 117 percent.
