Karen is responsible for marketing strategy and planning at the University of Leeds. She leads and manages the marketing team (c80 members) with responsibility for student recruitment marketing and marketing of research and innovation. Within student recruitment this includes a key role in pricing and portfolio development.

Karen is a marketing professional with over 30 years experience, with 20+ years in higher education and 15 years at a senior level.

She is the website development lead at Leeds, as well as the lead on the marketing elements of the development of an institution-wide CRM. Karen is also responsible for the market analysis and insight team which undertakes a broad range of projects across the total student journey and including understanding buyer behaviour, research for new course development and refinement of the portfolio, evaluation of marketing campaigns, events and activities.

The University’s origins go back to the nineteenth century with the founding of the Leeds School of Medicine in 1831 and then the Yorkshire College of Science in 1874. After Manchester and Liverpool had taken the decision to establish universities, Leeds also took the leap and in 1904, King Edward VII granted the University its own Charter as an independent institution.

The SWJTU-Leeds Joint School, based in Chengdu, China, offers a unique UK-Chinese engineering curriculum and is the first overseas school to be set up by the University of Leeds.
